I am a First Time Animator, what do I need to get started?

THE BASICS (For Uploading Layouts, Character Design, Storyboards, and all still images):

A Computer that has the following:

1)      Quicktime software installed (free download www.quicktime.com or www.apple.com)

2)      Internet connection (DSL, Cable or T1 are highly recommended for best viewing of webcasts)

3)      Set of speakers or headphones hooked up to your computer (essential for webcasts).

4)     Access.  Your firewall must allow video streaming and Quicktime viewing to happen from ACME Online.

Computer Scanner

You can use a computer scanner to scan still artwork that you would like to upload to ACME Animation Online.

ANIMATING (For Animation, Animatics and all moving images):

A Computer that also has the following Software:

Sorenson Video 3 or Cleaner 6 are both high-quality video compression software. Compressing video onto your computer allows you to convert it to Quicktime (free download) before uploading to ACME Online.  Check the internet for student discounts and sale prices.

3d Animation (Less Expensive):

Flash Animation  Limited Functionality around $50

Animation Master Very popular with competitive pricing around $250

Cinema 4d around $700

2D Animation (Most Expensive):

1)      Animation Pencil Test System (for capturing sequenced still frames and converting them to animation) such as Animation Lunch Box Sync Vendor from Animation Tool Works.

2)      laceName>PlasticlaceName> laceName>PeglaceName> laceName>BarslaceName>.  Used to hold your animation paper in the same place while drawing, flipping and filming.

3)      Animation Cell and Paper Punch. Used to punch your animation paper so that it can be used with the plastic peg bars

4)       Plexi Light Box-Single Bar. Used to place animation paper on so that the artist can see through to the next piece of paper.  Used for drawing, flipping and animation. These light boxes are portable.

FREE Animation Software:  MONKEY JAM...all you need is a scanner and your computer.
