WHO'S ON ACME?
ACME members include individuals interested in learning more about animation, and classroom programs in middle schools, high schools, after-school programs, colleges and universities.

LEARNERS
ACME has 4 Learner levels:

ACME is a diverse community of learners who share an interest in animation.  Whether you are new to the art form or have been studying animation for years, you will find that ACME is rich with diverse perspectives on art and animated storytelling.  There is always much to learn from the work and comments of ACME members.

AUDITIONER  Blue Circle  All High School Learners start on ACME as Auditioners.  If you are just beginning to study animation or have been working at it for a short time, you’ll find much to do and learn as an Auditioner.   Auditioners not only work towards moving up, but developing an On-Line portfolio that demonstrates basic animation principles.

COLLEGE Green Circle  All College students or members over 18 not enrolled in a high school program begin at the ACME College level.  College Level members may or may not have more experience with animation.  College members may immediatley begin to work towards their online professional portfolio as well as advancement to Intern status.

INTERN Yellow Square –The Intern level is for serious artists who understand and can flexibly use all of the fundamental principles of animation.  The Intern level is for those that are refining their skills and going deeper into one or more of the fields of animation.    At the Intern level, members can work towards building an On-Line Portfolio for Universities of Professional studios.

APPRENTICE Red Triangle  – If you become an Apprentice, you have reached the level of polishing your skills to become a professional animator.  All Apprentices are building their Professional Portfolios and have at least five artworks judged by three professionals each as professional quality!

EDUCATORS

Most ACME members are students in a class or after-school program that uses ACME as a resource for learning.  ACME gives special group features for member classrooms and after-school programs:

  • Middle school, high school and college teachers (and after-school coordinators) have a “sheltered gallery” where their students exchange work and comments out of view of the whole ACME community.  Teachers have an ACME Class Roster tool that shows their students’ participation information.
  • Teachers receive an ACME Animation Teacher Guide, with ACME challenges footnoted with alignments to the National Education Standards for the Visual Arts, the National Education Technology Standards, SCANS, and many of the Theatre Arts and Language Arts Standards also.  The Teacher’s Guide also includes resources for beginning animation teachers and classroom tips from Dave Master.  ACME Online teachers are also part of their own online community of professional development and exchange.
  • ACME also has specially-selected Senior Educators from top arts colleges and universities who give guidance to students who wish to pursue the arts in higher education.

If you’re a teacher, you don’t even need to know animation to get started.  ACME educators adapt the standards-aligned ACME curriculum and interactive connection to their unique classroom situation.  Educator members include teachers of art, media, technology, language arts, business and history.

PROFESSIONALS
Professionals from all aspects of the industry participate by giving honest feedback on posted work… You can choose which level of student you’d like to mentor and decide if the work meets professional criteria?  We’ve made professional participation convenient and easy.  You’ll be giving inspiration and information to thousands of learners for as little as one hour per month of one-click review and critique!  It is easy to join your colleagues and enrich arts education with a “Little League” of animation enthusiasts exploring the art form.
